ABOUT US Urban Express provides public bus services in the Auckland region. Almost all of these services are contracted to Auckland Transport (AT). While the Auckland Council plans and controls bus, train and ferry services, it does not operate them. The Council must "contract" in bus companies to run the services. For many Auckland bus services, AT provides a subsidy, for which Urban Express must tender against other bus operators. Urban Express started operating in early 1999 with four buses and two trial bus routes under contract to the Council, and has continued to grow.
Bus fares are set by AT, providing wide spread benefits to Auckland residents in affordability and consistency. This means that the subsidy is often recognised as a community cost and a contribution to providing transport alternatives to the private car, a growing issue in the Auckland region.
Urban Express must therefore provide excellent value to the ratepayers of Auckland. When we do win contracts, it is because the AT receives competitive prices, and a high level of quality services.
Urban Express is wholly owned and operated by Pavlovich Coachlines Ltd, a family owned company which has been providing high quality tour coaches for International Tour Operators and domestic users for over 73 years.
